Testing Your Brake Pedal
*VERY EASY*
You can periodically test the integrity of your brake hydraulic system with the engine ON by firmly pumping the brake pedal twice and holding it down. The pedal should not feel soft and should hold firm against your foot. The pedal should not sink to floor. If it does, see Excessive Pedal Travel Required.
You can also test the hydraulic system with the engine OFF. If the pedal is pumped three times when the engine is OFF, pedal travel should decrease with each successive pump of the pedal. After the third pumping movement, the brake pedal should hold firm at its rest (highest) position and not move at all. If it does not, see Pedal Soft or Spongy.
